Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. A new law went into effect on January 1, 2022 establishing this requirement concerning services rendered by state-licensed healthcare providers.
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance (self-pay) an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. If you are not planning to submit claims to your insurance, then we must provide you with a Good Faith Estimate upon your request.
At Grace Behavioral Health, we are already transparent about the cost of services. Our Financial Agreement, which you sign as part of your intake paperwork, lists all fees for services. Your fee will never change without advance notice, so you may calculate your own Estimate by multiplying the fee for service ($150-200) times the number of sessions you anticipate per month (usually 2 or 4), times the number of months you may be in therapy (usually 3-6 months, sometimes longer). If you request a Good Faith Estimate, we will do the math for you and provide a written Estimate.
For example: $180 x 4 sessions/month x 6 months = $4,320 total estimated cost of treatment for 24 sessions.
Under the Good Faith Act,
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.
